Born in Edinburgh, Scotland when he was very young (not in the castle; in a hospital about a mile and a quarter the other side of it) Peter went to a good school (which is very significant for anyone who understands Edinburgh. He did his first degree in Aberdeen and qualified as a solicitor and started his legal career in Edinburgh before moving to Glasgow where he did an MBA at Strathclyde.

Having outgrown the UK, he then spent 19 years based in Hong Kong where he worked as a corporate investigator, initially doing pre-investment duel diligence and fraud investigations all over the region, until focusing on money laundering and terrorist financing after the 9/11 attacks and the passage of the USA PATRIOT Act in 2002, in which respect he delivered training from Beijing to Jakarta and even as far as Tehran. Taking a break to pass the New York Bar Exam, and after a6-month consultancy project in the Philippines, he continued to travel the region prior to joining the UN

Peter become a major critic of the investigative function in the UN after his Unit Chief tried to tell him he was an idiot who had to be put on a 'Professional Improvement Plan'. This was the famous document which stated that as an investigator he must never ask questions "just to satisfy his curiousity"... Nearly 15 years later, people are still laughing at that, but that was the moment of stupidity which, as they say in Scotland, was when the fight started..... He has long since lost count of the number of press, TV and podcast interviews he has given, but he has been featured in 5 TV documentary films about the corruption and ineptitude in the UN and has testified in front of a US Congressional committee twice. His most recent (major) interviews is online here:

When I was still a UN staff member, I am proud to have been investigated for "harassment" - for this piece of urban terrorism, which nobody actually saw, which was a reference to something that a UN Dispute Tribunal judge found to be a FACT and, despite the fact it related to an OIOS Deputy Director interfering with evidence in an investigation; the ONLY person to be sanctioned for anything even remotely related to it was ME..... for this outrageous piece of "harassment" of the Deputy Director who, in any other investigative body would have been FIRED, but who, in the UN, was protected.....
